How to Burglar-Proof Your Home

Nothing’s more rewarding than being able to go on a much-needed vacation with the entire family.  As you pack your bags though, don’t forget to do what you must in order to keep prowling burglars away from your home.  Here are some simple tips on how to burglar-proof your home:

Lock your front door.  In the US, most break-ins happen when the homeowners forget to lock their front door.  Get one of those deadbolt locking mechanisms which require you to use a key to open the door from the outside.

Shield your windows.  If you have glass windows, install a safety film, so burglars won’t be able to easily smash it.  Be sure to draw the drapes as well.  Even if your precious mother’s ring is safely stashed away in your cabinet, that huge LED TV will catch burglars’ eyes through those glass windows.  Keep them under wraps by drawing the curtains.

Don’t overshare on Facebook. If you post a blow-by-blow account of where you’re going and when you’ll be away from home, this gives potential burglars knowledge of your whereabouts, thus exposing your empty house to danger.  If you really have to brag about your vacation, do it after you get back.

With a little discipline, you should manage to safely protect your home from burglars.  Knowing that your house is safe will help give you a more relaxing vacation.
