Learn through Play with Safari Ltd.’s Toy Models

Sean is growing up real quick and I want to provide him with toys that will encourage him to do imaginative play. He has two toys that he really liked but I thought he should have a bit more of variety of toys to play with to encourage his imagination further. And when I read about Safari Ltd, I knew they would have the  perfect toys for my son.

Safari Ltd. US has been making authentic scale model dinosaur figures for 30 years. Their models are so detailed that kids aren’t the only ones who appreciate them. Adult toy collectors and even educators also prefer these figures over other brands. The dinosaur replicas are made with the help of paleontologists of Carnegie Museum of Natural History to ensure top quality of their details and keep them as authentic as possible. Aside from dinosaurs featured in the Carnegie Collection they also have other pre-historic and wildlife pieces in their current line-up.  You can request for a free Safari Ltd catalog to see their latest offerings.

Among the replicas we received was a Spinosaurus, a dinosaur that existed at the time of the kingly Tyrannosaurus Rex.  Though they existed in the same era, Spinosaurus were never in the same habitat as the T-rex.  The replica was 7.5” L x 5” H which was a 1:65 scale of the real one.  The hand painting of the bright red sail and the gray & black body was so detailed and vivid that it looked so real.

We also received a Concavenator which looked fierce with its raised spine and long tail.  If we lived during the dinosaur age, we’d best stay away from this meat eater with its sharp set of teeth.  The Concavenator lets out a tremendous roar that causes shivers in its raised spine – and most likely, sends shivers throughout its preys’ bodies.  The replica measures 7.25? L x 3.75? H. That’s only a scale of 1:25 so in real life, this dinosaur would be smaller than the Spinosaurus.

And last but definitely not the least is the Siberian Tiger.  It’s 10.5″ long and 4.5″ high with a scale of 1:10 compared to its real counterpart.  Like the two dinosaur replicas, the details that were hand painted on this tiger replica are so intricate.  The sculpting and painting were done so well that you’d half expect to feel a real tiger’s furry coat. I also got myself covered and printed out a fact sheet on these pre-historic creatures as my little one is sure to ask me a lot of questions about them.

I was amazed by the detail given in each toy not just in the way that they were molded but also in their painting. It is quite easy to imagine them coming to life right in front of you.  This is another reason why they’re great to buy while the kids are young and their fertile imagination can help them visualize life in the pre-historic era.  It is also good to note that the SafariLtd toys go through strict product testing to ensure that the toys are Lead and Phthalate Free, and are safe for children to play with.
