Romantic Bedroom Design Ideas

Just because you’re no longer in the first flush of youthful romance, newly wedded or about to celebrate Valentine’s Day, doesn’t necessarily mean that your bedroom décor has to be basic and functional. Having a subtly sexy and romantic aura about your room doesn’t have to be a temporary or naff thing.

Of course, you probably don’t want to go too over the top – unless you’re a die-hard fan of swan-shaped beds, mirrored ceilings and swagged, crimson silk drapes, of course. Whatever look you’re going for, help is at hand; you can have bespoke furnishings and décor specially created for you – there are plenty of bedroom offers available for viewing online. You could also add your own touch to create a romantic atmosphere in your bedroom.

Get your bedding right

There’s no sense in having an austere-looking your bed if you’re going for a romantic feel in your room. Some tend to overdo it, buying excess amounts of pillows and flouncy, flowery sheets. You don’t need to go down that route – subtlety is the name of the game.

Go for crisp, white, pure linen sheets instead. If you’re on a budget, try and allocate most of your funds towards your bedding, as this is clearly the most important element of a romantic bedroom. Ideally, you should have two large cushion-like pillows and four soft sleeping pillows.

Carpet your floors

A hard, cold floor isn’t really sexy. Some interior designers would advise that you should go for wall-to-wall carpeted floors, so your bare feet will have a warm, soft landing. Wool is always a good option, but a wool and silk mix is even better.

If this is out of your budget range, you can always spruce things up with a wool/silk rug instead, which will look very, very cosy in front of your fireplace, should you be lucky enough to have one in your bedroom.

Think about how your room is lit

Lighting is of the utmost importance if you want a romantic feel to your bedroom. As a general rule, never have a bright light right above your bed; too much lighting from that angle won’t be very flattering to you or your loved one – nor will it be relaxing.

Try and get dimmers for all the lights that you do have in the room and mix things up with your lighting choices. Get a bedside table lamp, but also maybe go for a small chandelier as well.

Drapery is important too

 You need to feel totally alone with your other half, so shutting off the outside world is vital. Go for black-out curtains, but try and go for something that looks sexy, too. A whole wall of drapery will give your room a hushed, decadent feel.
