Budget Summer Field Trips

The sun’s up and the kids are out of school. Keeping them cooped up at home could turn your well-kept rooms into a madhouse. If you have a brood of three, or four, or five needing to be enrolled in summer classes and recreational programs, that could mean a whole lot of money. However, here are interesting and educational things that you can do with your kids during the summer without costing you a lot. Go on short budget summer field trips and enjoy the sunshiny summer days outdoors.

Here are a couple of summer activities to enjoy with your kids:

  • Have picnics at the park or at the lake. Summers are perfect for frolicking in the greens and having your meals outdoors. If your little ones are bird lovers, you take some bird pictures along with you and try to identify the birds hovering above you as you eat your meal.
  • Visit the zoo. Do not wait until the school field trip to take your kids to see the animals in the zoo. Make it a family field trip and take a leisurely walk through the cages. End your visit with a game on the way home by having each child name an animal one after another without repeating any animal names – that is, if they stay awake throughout your ride back.
  • Visit art museums.  What better way to foster their love for creativity than by seeing firsthand the masterpieces of great artists.
