December is the ultimate start of the ski season for almost all ski enthusiasts. However, February often offers the best snow of the winter season and is considered the peak season in the Alps. So if you’ve been dreaming of skiing down the Alps slope, now is the perfect time to go to France. School holidays in France run in mid-Feb so best look for luxury ski deals for the family on the last week of February where you can enjoy great snow and warm skies without the holiday crowd.
Courchevel and Tignes are great options for those looking for wide open pistes that offer plenty of space for all skiers. Families may find Courchevel more enjoyable with less crowds and amazing scenery while those looking for amazing ski runs will have a blast at Tignes. If you’re travelling with your family and are looking for less-crowded resorts, consider booking in quaint Sainte-Foy in the Tarantaise or La Rosiere in Montvalezan which is very near Les Arcs. Those travelling without children and who prefer skiing off-piste can go to Chamonix instead. The place also has wonderful history as it was where the very first Winter Olympics in 1924 was held.
Prior to booking, do check if ski school is still available and if there is a kindergarten place for the little tots. Arriving at your ski destination and finding out that all ski schools are fully-booked and that ski equipment are all rented out will definitely dampen your high spirits. Avoid this by pre-booking everyone in their appropriate ski class and by making reservations for ski equipment.
If you’re still planning to take the family on a luxury ski vacation to the Alps this month, better start looking for luxury ski deals now. Most ski resorts are fully booked by this time but if you’re lucky, you may still be able to find one available before the month ends. Otherwise, head off to North America instead and ski down the powdery slopes of Snowbird or Alta in Utah, Winter Park or Breckenridge in Colorado, or Banff in Canada. Then make sure you book for next year’s ski vacation in France as early as now to avoid missing out on February’s fascinating snow again.
