The Toshiba Laptop For Work, School, and Play

Most families today have computers and laptops at home. More often than not, each member of the family would have his own gadget to use for work, school, or play. Different laptops have specifications that suit the needs of each family member. A younger child would perhaps get the kind of computing power he needs with a netbook. Older kids might need more powerful specs for multi-tab browsing for research or even for online gaming. The Toshiba L875D-S7332 17.3″ Satellite that I got from Staples is one that is versatile enough for all members of the family to use.

The Laptop Specs

This laptop is a budget laptop loaded with Windows 8. It is powered by an AMD A6-4400M Accelerated 2.7GHz up to 3.2GHz with AMD Turbo Core Technology 3.0 1MB L2 Cache Processor.   The 6GB DDR3 RAM is good enough for a laptop’s memory. Those who wish to have more in terms of memory can upgrade the laptops RAM up to 16GB.   The 640GB hard drive is also roomy enough for basic computing programs, some games, and loads of files and documents. For people fond of downloading movies and programs, an external storage device might be advisable.

The screen size is quite big at 17.3” so there’s room for all the graphics and text in whatever document, media, or website you wish to view on the laptop’s display. Pictures come out crisp with a native resolution of 1600 x 900 HD. Other features that are conveniently bundled into this package include a built-in webcam with mic, speakers, wifi connectivity, media card readers, and USB ports. This laptop also has an optical drive as well as a 6-cell Lithium Ion battery. With such a configuration, it is expected that the laptop would be quite on the heavy side. At 6.2 lbs., it’s a hefty load to be lugging around in your arms. You definitely need a good laptop bag to deal with the weight.

Family Test Run

Toshiba

This is the first Windows 8 gadget we have in the house so we are still feeling our way around it. There’s a tablet feel to the swiping navigation on the main screen where all the apps and programs are arranged in boxes. We felt the power in the processor as the laptop proved to be highly responsive with our swipes, scrolls, and clicks. We each had our turn to test the laptop for whatever computing tasks we wanted to do. We were all satisfied and happy with this laptop. The most difficult part was actually getting the one currently using the laptop to pass it on to the next user. We’ve loaded it up with the various apps and programs that we normally use, and some new ones that we are eager to try in this more powerful device.

Just Right for the Family

While the Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332 might not be all that great for hard core gaming, it does prove to be a great laptop that the family can share and use for work, school, and play. Retailing at only about $500, it’s a great steal for families who are working on a limited budget. There are definitely other high-end brands out in the market today with all the bells and whistles that tech enthusiasts are raving about. But, for regular families like mine, there really is no need to have all the ultra high-tech features to have an enjoyable computing experience

Full disclosure: Staples provided met with these items for review. The thoughts and opinions expressed are strictly my own. Feel free to shop their entire line of Laptop online.

I bought a netbook more than a year ago. I didn’t really care about the small screen because it was only intended for writing/blogging — i just cared more about how light it was to carry around. But then the Internet got me hooked again (you don’t know how many tabs I have open whenever I surf the web) and I got interested in graphic designing more than ever. I have been wanting to buy a larger laptop and Toshiba was one of the brands I have in mind. Thanks for writing this review! It’ll definitely help me decide.
